The First Urban Garden of Trevessu

Trevessu embarked on an innovative and socially responsible project in October and November, creating a temporary urban garden in the park of the former Orfanotrofio Infanzia e Patria. This initiative aligns perfectly with Trevessu's social objectives, emphasizing the value of urban gardening as a means to enhance the urban habitat. The idea of transforming unused or abandoned public spaces into green, livable areas for the community marks a significant step towards urban renewal and environmental regeneration. Moreover, the urban garden offers citizens a chance to reconnect with nature and its rhythms, increasingly relevant in modern urban life.

The project's first phase required basic but essential work: cleaning the park. This initial effort laid the groundwork for the garden's creation. Following the cleanup, light fences were erected around the garden. These structures, designed to be easily removable, ensure the space can be returned to its original state without leaving a trace. This aspect underscores the project's temporary and respectful nature, aligning with Trevessu's vision of enriching public space without appropriating it.

In parallel with these practical efforts, Trevessu played a crucial role in encouraging and drafting a Regulation for Urban Gardens in Iglesias. This regulation, a milestone for urban gardening in the city, was approved in December 2015 with the commitment of the municipal administration. The creation of this regulation not only formalizes urban gardening practices but also establishes guidelines and principles for managing these spaces sustainably and inclusively. This further promotes community involvement and collective responsibility in caring for urban green spaces.
